Belknap is born in Damariscotta Maine. Her parents are David Belknap and Louise Belknap. She was a student at Lincoln Academy, Newcastle Maine. While at Middlebury College in Vermont she began to develop an interest in performing. In the end, The American Conservatory Theater awarded her a master's in fine arts. Belknap is credited with a variety of television credits, such as series regular roles on Medical Investigation, Third Watch and The Handler. She also was a regular on Deadline and Law & Order Law & Special Victims Unit, as well as part-time guest stars. They confirmed it via a statement to PEOPLE that they'd made the decision to separate.
